It is important to note that almost all shipping companies that ship cargo from the UAE to Kenya or other African countries are based in Deira, Dubai. Therefore, if you are in another Emirate like Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, or Fujairah. You will have to find out a way on how your parcel will reach Dubai. Even if you happen to be staying in Dubai no cargo company will come to collect your cargo at your doorstep.

Search for a Reliable Cargo Shipping Company

The first thing you will do if you want to send cargo from the UAE to Kenya is to search for a reliable shipping company. There are several cargo companies that you can use to send your cargo to your home in Kenya. To find out more about their reliability you can check their reviews online—on social media platforms and their websites(if they have one).

You can also ask other people’s opinions about their services in social media communities like Facebook groups. To get a pool of shipping companies to select from you can get them on the internet or in social media communities like Facebook groups. I recommend the latter because you can ask for any clarification you need and their representative will gladly answer them in the forum. If he or she exaggerates or lies about their services other forum members will roast him or her. The few notable shipping companies are:

  • Salihiya Cargo and shipping Agency,
  • Rolling cargo,
  • Golden Gate Cargo LLC,
  • EyeLink Cargo Express
  • Shardi Air Cargo LTD
  • Safe Gate Cargo Services LLC
  • Safari Line Cargo LLC

Assembling and packaging your Cargo

After settling on the reliable shipping company you will assemble and package your items on your own. But if you have extra money with you you can pay a shipping company specialist to do it for you.

For the security and safety purpose of your cargo during shipment, you will need several variables to secure the parcel. You will need a carton box, some ropes, and wrapping rolls to pack your items securely. You can source them from the nearest shop in your area of residence. After you have sourced these variables you can arrange and pack your items and seal them accordingly.

All you have to do is to call a pick-up driver across the road to transport you and your parcel to Deira. And your cargo will be on its way to Kenya after arriving at the shipping company compounds. (Most of these transportation pick-up drivers are a call away as you will see pick-ups trucks with banners like “CALL [NUMBER] FOR TRANSPORT” everywhere in Dubai).

If you happen to be in Abu Dhabi or other Emirates the process changes from being simple and easy to be tricky and lengthy. Tricky because the sipping process will be done in your absence and pay what you will be told. Therefore, you must have some level of trust to move on this step. But if you have a car and some time to spare you are better off even than those people in Dubai. Because all you need is to put your cargo in your car and make a trip to Dubai and Viola your cargo will be on its way home.

If you send your cargo through a local courier company it will arrive in Deira, Dubai after 1 or 2 days. Immediately the shipping company collects your cargo from the courier company it will measure the package if you intend to send it by sea and send you the bill. Or weigh it if you want to send it through the air and of course send you the bill.

After receiving the bill you will pay either through a bank deposit or bank transfer depending on the payment method you agreed with the shipping company. After the payment, your cargo will be shipped, and will take around 30 to 40 days to reach the collection center in Nairobi or Mombasa in Kenya.
